The Elizabeth Garde National Scholarship Program USA is sponsored by the Danish Sisterhood of America.
Inspired by the success of the Danish Brotherhood of America, Christine Hemmingsen on December 15th, 1883 founded the Danish Sisterhood of America in Negaunee, Michigan. Christine Hemmingsen was a Danish immigrant from Orup, Denmark.

As of today, the Danish Sisterhood of America continues to grow with numerous lodges located throughout the United States of America and Canada.
It is exciting and heartwarming to be a member of the Danish Sisterhood of America. This Membership gives you the chance to relate again with your Danish lineage, also helps you to understand more mysteries and stories about the Danish customs and traditions, and then solidifies your connection with Denmark.
The mission of the Danish Sisterhood of America is solely to strengthen, maintain, and preserve the Danish cultural inheritance and traditions for the upcoming generations to learn from.
The Danish Sisterhood of America takes pride in its Scholarship and Grants Programs.
Their scholarships and grants are made possible through generous endowments and memorial funds. They are also being supplemented by donations from individual members, lodges, and districts of the National Sisterhood
Note: No membership dues are used to support these scholarships
The Danish Sisterhood of America has four (4) different scholarships, one of which presently offers six (6) awards per year.
Applicants should apply for one scholarship only.
Every scholarship application that is due (must be postmarked by) March 1, and is awarded for study commencing in the fall of the year of application.
The scholarships are available to members of the Danish Sisterhood and their children, regardless of age.

Any student who wishes to apply for the scholarship must have at least a
- 3.0 GPA from the usual 4.0-grade point.
- Is require to be a graduate of high school or a post high school pupil with interest to further and obtain a degree in nursing or any available medical courses offered within.
