This scholarship program was created to recognize college-bound students with narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia by Jack & Julie Narcolepsy Scholarship program 2022. Through this program, 25 scholarships of $1000 each will be awarded to these students. Interested high school seniors that have been diagnosed with narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia are encouraged to check their eligibility and make an application for a four-year college or university starting in Fall 2022.

As part of the Jack & Julie Narcolepsy Scholarship, students with narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia will have the opportunity to receive college scholarships that will support them and foster awareness among high school and college students. Since the program was founded by Julie Flygare and the Graham family in 2014, 126 scholarships have been awarded in the course of its eight-year existence.
What is Narcolepsy?
Essentially, Narcolepsy can be described as a chronic sleep disorder characterized by feelings of drowsiness and sudden episodes of sleepiness during the day. As a result of narcolepsy, people often struggle to stay awake for long periods of time, no matter what the circumstances might be. As a result of narcolepsy, your daily routine can be seriously disrupted, which can be very frustrating. However, the Jack & Julie Narcolepsy Scholarship is to give hope to individuals suffering from this ailment through the help of its scholarship program.

If you would like your application to be considered complete, you must include the following information in your submission:
- Please write a personal essay about the topic below (500-1000 words) as a response to the following question: check how to write essay here
- What would you say to yourself on the day you were diagnosed if you could go back in time and speak to yourself?
- Would you be able to give your younger self any advice or a different perspective based on what you know now?
- On the day of your diagnosis, write a letter to yourself to let yourself know how you feel.
- In addition to extracurricular activities, you will also need to provide a list of employment and volunteer experience as well as honors, officer roles, and leadership experiences
- Please provide a transcript of your grades for the most recent semester in which you have been enrolled
- You must provide the results of your ACT or SAT exam, or a reason why you have not taken the ACT or SAT exam yet.
- Ensure a diagnosis confirmation form signed by a sleep doctor or neurosurgeon that has been accredited
- Photographs of yourself in a professional manner, such as headshots or portraits
- NB: To ensure a fair review process, all submission requirements must be met for your application to be reviewed.

All interested applicants for the narcolepsy scholarship must submit their applications by April 1, 2022 – no exceptions will be made.

It is necessary for you to meet all three of the following criteria in order to be considered for the scholarship:
A high school senior or a recent high school graduate in the United States who is about to enter their first semester of college.
You are planning on attending a four-year college or university in the near future.
The diagnosis of narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia has been confirmed by a physician (the diagnosis has to be confirmed by a medical professional).
Q: What if I don’t qualify or don’t receive a scholarship? Is there any other type of scholarship available for students who suffer from narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia?
As a small non-profit with limited funding at this time, we are unfortunately unable to provide any support for many of the well-deserving students with narcolepsy and idiopathic hypersomnia. Our team is rooting for you as you pursue your educational goals and we hope that you will find success along the way! Q: When is the scholarship application due?
It is now too late to apply for the 2022 scholarship because the deadline has passed. The application process for the scholarship for the year 2023 will open in January 2023.

It is a requirement that scholarship awardees submit their responses to a brief “college update” survey and a photograph of themselves at college as part of the scholarship application process in Fall 2022.
