The Schwarzman Scholars program 2023/2024 is a new scholarship program that aims to prepare the next generation of global leaders for the challenges of the 21st Century and the geopolitical landscape of the world. Tsinghua University in Beijing – one of China’s most prestigious universities – will be offering this one-year Master’s Degree program for the world’s best and brightest students as one of their ways to develop their leadership skills and professional networks.

What is involved in a Schwarzman scholarship program? & value

The Schwarzman Scholars are extraordinary students who will receive a scholarship package that includes tuition, room, board, travel to Beijing and back, an in-country study tour, all of the textbooks and supplies required in the course, health insurance, a personal stipend, as well as travel to and from Beijing at the beginning and end of the academic year..

Eligibility requirements for the Schwarzman Scholars program

Graduate of a college or university or its equivalent with a Bachelor’s degree or a first degree from an accredited college or university.
The applicant who is currently enrolled in a degree program must ensure he or she will successfully complete all degree requirements before August 1 of the year in which the applicant intends to enroll in the Schwarzman Scholar program. As far as undergraduate study is concerned, there are no requirements for specific fields of study, but all majors are encouraged to apply; however, applicants must articulate how participating in Schwarzman Scholars will help them develop their leadership potential within their respective fields, regardless of their undergraduate major.

Age Requirement.


It is required that candidates be 18 years of age or older at the beginning of their enrollment year of their Schwarzman Scholars program, but not yet 29 years of age.

English language proficiency.


All teaching will be conducted in English, so applicants must be able to demonstrate strong proficiency in this language. Applicants who do not speak English as their native language must submit official English proficiency test scores along with their application if their native language is not English. In terms of test options, the following are acceptable:

  • The TOEFL PBT is the Test of English as a Foreign Language. A minimum score of 600 is required.
  • • Internet-based Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT). A minimum score of 100 is required.
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum score of 7 is required.

For those applicants who completed at least two years of academic study at an undergraduate institution in which English was the primary language of instruction during their undergraduate studies, this requirement will be waived.  There will also be an exception to this requirement if the applicant has studied in English at the Master’s degree level or higher for at least two years.

How to apply for the Schwarzman Scholars program

Please fill out the online application form as well as submit the necessary documentation by the deadline in order to apply. A deadline of 20 September 2022 must be met by applicants from the United States and other countries.

Those who hold passports from the Mainland of China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the Macao can apply for the visa service until the 20th of May 2022.
